Episode 1.5: “A Call from Ruthie”

CHARACTERS:

Anonymous Hotline Caller

Theme fades and we hear Move On, from Yankee Bravo playing, and the sound of Chuck sipping coffee and typing/clicking away as he preps for the next episode of The Cryptic.

CHUCK:

Come on, come on. Gotta find something. Give Chuck something yummy.

GREG:

( a beep) Hey, this is Zev in Zainsville. There’s a yeti…. (a beep cuts off Zev)

CHUCK:

Nope. C’mon ...big money, big money….

Anonymous caller:

(A beep) I think I seen a dragon down near Yellow Springs. It has eight tails and it’s crappin’ all

over my sorghum…. (another beep interrupts as Chuck is getting desperate for something good)

CHUCK:

Jeez Louise. Chuck needs a show. Big money…

RUTHY:

(A beep) Cryptic? It’s Ruthie. You know me. I’ve been trying to reach you on Alastair’s number

for a while now? Hello? Okay, well I’m down in Adams County near the Serpent Mound….

CHUCK:

Serpent Mound? Nice.

(He clicks off the music to listen more intently)

RUTHY:

We got some of those electromagnetic disturbances you’re always talking about. You know, big

disruptions in the aether. Big enough to see through.

CHUCK:

What the heck does that mean?

RUTHY:

Also some sort of...ectoplasm maybe? I know you aren’t a big one of orbs and all that nonsense but it’s misty here and it ain’t regular country mist. I’ve seen it just fill a space from the middle of the air. I moves, too, and I think I saw….well, I don’t want to say what I saw.

Chuck:

Huh.

RUTHY:

And besides it’s the Mound. I been here a long time and I’ve never seen it like this before.

Never.

CHUCK:

There might be a show in this.

RUTHY:

I’ve been a long time caller and you know some of my tips have paid off. So Alastair...or

whoever is running the show now...could you get someone to check this out? You got my

contact info so I….
